Prof Smey's Concert Calendar

Baruch College Art-A-Thon
All Day Thursday April 12

Thursday April 12 is the Baruch College "Art-A-Thon," when our art, theater and music faculty offer various free activities throughout the day. There's all sorts of stuff happening. For instance, my boss Anne Swartz will do a piano class (on playing the blues) from 9:00am-11:00am in VC 7-140, and there is a marathon reading of Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles all day long in room 7-244.

Here is a PDF of the whole schedule

The thing I am really excited about, though, is my colleague Jud Wellington's presentation on Afro-Latin marimba playing, from 1:00-3:00 (in VC 7-140).

The marimba is the king of the "mallet percussion" instruments. Most students have heard of the xylophone - the marimba is like a xylophone that is bigger, deeper, and sounds nicer (due to the resonating pipes suspended underneath).

Prof. Wellington will teach students to play the marimba, and he'll lead the group in some traditional Latin American songs.

It's free and it'll be happening during the "club hour" - you should go!
