On this day I laid out all of our long-range plans, for a theory test on paper (Fri, Sept 25), an oral quiz in a one-on-one appointment (Fri, Oct 2), and a midterm composition project (Tues, Oct 6). More details are below. Also, Homework #6 was still in process.
Theory Test #1, Friday Sept 25
I gave you a study guide which explains exactly what will be on this test (namely counting your rhythms, notes on the treble clef, notes on the piano, and a few scales). Remember that we also have a page devoted to online apps that can help you study.
Oral Quiz Test #1, Friday Oct 2
This is the one where we will meet in individual appointments and you'll read some notes, do a rhythm, and sing a melody. The prep sheet tells you what to prepare.
Midterm Composition Project
Finally, we'll do a short composition project for midterms. Drafts are due Tues Oct 6. Remember the emphasis is on short! I'm only looking for about fifteen seconds worth of music. The real challenge here is to write something that you can perform, and then to do it correctly.
Worksheet #6: The Dot
Homework #6 asks you to put a count on four rhythms that feature the dot. This is covered in chapter 7 of our textbook and if you want you could look at my powerpoint from Tuesday's class.
This one is due on Friday, Sept 18.
