MUSC 220 - Fundamentals of Music Theory

Hayden Hall, Room 105.
Tuesdays 12:30-1:45, Wednesdays 1:00-1:50, Fridays 12:30-1:45
Class 30Tuesday, April 02

This was our first day back after Easter. We revieved I-V-I progressions with the "common-tone technique," learned my so-called "next-closest technique," and sang some melodies in minor. It was really an action-packed class.

Worksheet #14 is due on Friday, and we added a new one for next Tuesday.

Worksheet #14: I-V-I with Common-Tone Connections

All right, Assignment #14 is our first serious exercise in making progressions that we could play at the piano. The method of taking a common tone is explained in Chapter 18 of our theory textbook.

This one is not due until Friday, April 5.

Worksheet #15: I-V-I with the "Next-Closest" Connection

In assignment #15 we make more I-V-I progressions, but we'll use my "next-closest" technique where the chords move a little bit more. You can review p. 70 in our theory anthology for more details about that.

This one is due on Tuesday, April 9.
