MUSC 320 - Advanced Theory

Hayden Hall, Room 105, Tuesdays and Fridays 2:00-3:15
Class 23Friday, April 12

Here we continued on our journey with pitch-class numbers and mod 12 intervals. We reviewed our pitch class numbers, the mod 12 world, and the interval classes, and then we got into interval vectors (which take an inventory of the intervals in a set) and mod12 transposition. This stuff is now covered in Chapter 15 of our textbook. In class we used these pages.

Homework #12 was due. First draft of the papers were supposed to be due on next Friday, April 19.

Homework #12: Extended Harmonies

Homework #12 asks you to make a few jazz-like harmonies. You could consult pp. 87-88 in our theory book for examples of the different kinds.

This assignment is due today.

The "Rock Paper"

We have guidelines for the rock paper.

Chapter 10: Rock Harmony is now published in our Advanced Theory Anthology.

Remember that our one-page paper proposal was due Friday March 22. First draft is due Tuesday, April 16 Friday, April 19.

Look Man, Nobody's Ever Going to See This

So I'll just pick a random song I like without worrying about it too much.
