MUSC 220 - Fundamentals of Music Theory

Miguel Hall, Room 207
Tuesdays 12:30-1:45, Wednesdays 1:00-1:50, Fridays 12:30-1:45
Class 6Friday, January 23

In this session we pushed a little harder on key sigs and then learned about the use of the dot in rhythmic notation. We finished by practicing a bunch of "heartbeat" rhythms in 4/4 and also some 3/4.

I gave out Homework #5 and #4 is still in process.

Homework #4: Scales

Worksheet #4 asks you to create scales on a piano keyboard, "in the abstract" (just listing off the notes), and on a musical staff. Pages 27-28 in the theory textbook explain how to make your scales.

This assignment is due on Tuesday, Jan 27.

Homework #5: The Dot

Worksheet #5 asks you to add counts to a bunch of rhythms that include the dot. This is covered on pp. 24-26 of our textbook.

I guess this is what passes for music at the BBC
