MUSC 110 - Intro to Notated Music

Miguel Hall Room 207, Tuesdays and Fridays 11:00-12:15
Class 3Tuesday, September 01

In this session we'll add the last puzzle piece for our performing-type activities, which is THE PIANO. Homeworks #1 and #2 are basically due, #3 is in process, and I'll drop another one on the piano keys.

Homework #1: Survey

Our first homework assignment is actually an online survey where you tell me about your musical background, what you are into, and where you get your music. It's pretty short, five minutes at the most.

I set this one up so that it is due on Friday, Sept 11.

Homework #2: Music in 4/4

Worksheet #2 asks you to put counts on some rhythms and draw some rhythms from counts. You can consult pp. 6-9 in our theory textbook for a reminder of how it all works.

This assignment is due today, Tuesday Sept 1.

Assignment #3: Treble Clef Practice I

Worksheet #3 asks you to name a bunch of pitches on the staff with treble clef, using my "level up" method of gradually increasing difficulty. The worksheet basically shows you what to do but you could also consult pp. 2-5 in our textbook.

This assignment is due on Friday, Sept 4.

Assignment #4: The Piano Keys

Homework #4 asks you to name a bunch of piano keys, easy peasy. You can consult pp. 15-18 in our textbook for help on where the notes are, and pp. 21-23 on the sharps and flats.

This assignment is due on Tuesday, Sept 8.
