MUSC 220 - Fundamentals of Music Theory

Hayden Hall, Room 105.
Tuesdays 12:30-1:45, Wednesdays 1:00-1:50, Fridays 12:30-1:45
Class 18Friday, February 23

Let me tell you what I remember about this day. I had initially decided to push forward and cover the "large intervals." I had the next assignment printed up and everything. But as I was driving in to work I thought to myself "We should slow down a little bit. Intervals are hard." So instead we did..something else. A bunch of dictation, I think. So, you're welcome, I'll accept my Nobel prize in person or through the mail.

Homework #9 was due on this day, and #10 was still in process.

Worksheet #9: Weird Triads and Fancy Note Names

Worksheet #9 covers two different things.

What I'm calling the "fancy" note-names are covered Chapter 12 (pp. 41-2) of our theory anthology. I'm actually not even going to bother teaching this in class, it is simple enough that you can just go read it. 😛

Your augmented and diminished triads are covered in Chapter 13, on pp. 46-7.

This worksheet is due today.

Worksheet #10: Intervals I

Assignments No. 10 asks you to make and ID a lot of the "small" intervals (minor 2nd through perfect 5th). These are covered on pp. 49-53 of our theory textbook.

Due date is Tues, Feb 27.
