MUSC 320 - Advanced Theory

Miguel Hall, Room 207, Tuesdays and Fridays 2:00-3:15
Class 6Friday, January 30

We went over Homework #3 together and I "instagraded" it. We did the first piece on #4 together as well, AND I taught you how to resolve your V7 chords. It was a pretty good class. I'm hoping you guys can finish up #4 and also knock out #5 for Tuesday.

Worksheet #4: Non-chord Tones

Worksheet #4 asks you to analyze three easy piano pieces and label all of the passing tones, neighbor tones, appoggiaturas, etc. Reviewing Chapter 3 in our theory textbook is probably pretty essential before you dig in. Here are audio clips of the three passages:

1) Beethoven, Ecossaise in G major WoO 23

2) Mozart, Minuet in F major K. 2:

3) Burgmüller, Arabesque

Due date is Tues, Feb 4.

Homework #5: Progressions with V7

Worksheet #5 asks you to make a handful of V7-I progressions using the techniques I show you in Chapter 4. You can consult pp. 22-25 in the book to make sure you remember what to do.

This one is due on Tues, Feb 2, but I say in the fine print that I'll take it on Friday 2/5 as well.
