MUSC 220 - Fundamentals of Music Theory

Miguel Hall, Room 207
Tuesdays 12:30-1:45, Wednesdays 1:00-1:50, Fridays 12:30-1:45
Class 4Tuesday, September 02

For this session I decided to "double down" on homeworks, since you guys were all so good at your scales already. So we covered and assigned homeworks #4 (scales) and #5 (dotted rhythms). Assignment #3 was in process.

Homework #3: Piano Keys, Whole and Half Steps

Worksheet #3 asks you to ID a bunch of piano keys and calculate a few whole steps and half steps. You could consult pp. 15-22 in the theory textbook for reference.

This one is due on Friday, Sept 5.

Homework #4: Scales

Worksheet #4 asks you to create scales on a piano keyboard, "in the abstract" (just listing off the notes), and on a musical staff. Pages 27-28 in the theory textbook explain how to make your scales.

This assignment is due on Tuesday, Sept 9.

Worksheet #5: The Dot

Assignment #5 asks you to add counts to rhythms that include dotted notes. This is covered on pp. 24-25 in the textbook.

Homework #5 is ALSO due on Tues, Sept 9.

When They Bang This In The Club, You've Got To Get Up

...because of the dotted "heartbeat" rhythm, you see.
