MUSC 220 - Fundamentals of Music Theory

Hayden Hall, Room 105.
Tuesdays 12:30-1:45, Wednesdays 1:00-1:50, Fridays 12:30-1:45
Class 4Tuesday, January 23

In this session we got back into spelling our major scales using the WWHWWWH pattern. Then we did some ear training stuff - a little treble cleffing (in Level Up), singing some melodies in solfège, and dashing off two quick ungraded group dictations.

One homework was due today, two[!] are coming up for Friday, and there is one new worksheet (#4) in the mix as well.

Here are details on all homework:

Homework #2: Rhythms in 4/4

I'll give out our first worksheet on Tuesday. This one will be due on Tues, Jan 23.

To get started, take a look at pp. 6-9 in our theory anthology.

Homework #3: Piano Notes, Whole Steps, and Half Steps

This worksheet quizzes you about the notes on the piano, and it asks you to count out two small distances (half steps vs. whole steps).

Due date is Fri, Jan 26.

Homework #4: Major Scales (w/ the WWHWWWH Method)

Worksheet #4 asks you to spell a bunch of major scales in several different ways (by drawing on a piano, just writing the letters, or notating it on the staff.) The WWHWWWH method is covered on pp. 26-27 of our theory text.

Due date for this one is Tues, Jan 30.
