Class 13Tuesday, September 23

All right, we've got a LOT of items stacked up on the agenda, though it is nothing we can't handle. 😛 Homework #7, singing quiz, two more worksheets, composition assignment.

In class we reviewed triads, minor scales + key sigs, we tried out MuseScore, the free notation software, and we sang a few tunes.

Worksheet #7: Major and Minor Triads

Worksheet #7 asks you to make and recognize major and minor triads on a piano keyboard and the musical staff. Triads are covered on pp. 44-46 of our textbook.

This assignment is due a bit early, on Wednesday Sept 24.

Singing + Rhythms Quiz, Friday Sept 26

The prep sheet tells you what to practice, and here is the schedule for appointments.

Worksheet #8: Fancy Notes and Weird Triads

Worksheet #8 asks you to do two different things. You will have to read up on the "fancy names" for notes on pp. 42-43 of our theory textbook. Your "weird triads" are covered on pp. 47-48.

This worksheet is due on Tuesday, Sept 30.

Homework #9: Minor Scales and Key Sigs

Worksheet #9 asks you to make a bunch of minor scales (in the "natural minor" and "harmonic" flavors) and ID a few minor key signatures. All of this is covered on pp. 38-41 of the theory text.

This one is due on Friday, Oct 3.

Homework #10: Short Composition

Also for Friday we will write a short composition. I am talking REALLY short, like 15 seconds long. These guidelines provide more details about what I'm looking for - the primary objective is to notate something correctly and then play what you wrote.

This assignment is due Friday, Oct 3.
